OLVIDO PA’ RECORDAR (forget to remember) 2017-2025
Olvido pa' Recordar
(Forget to Remember)
Fifteen years ago, my mother and I sought asylum in the United States, leaving Colombia behind and beginning a life shaped by distance and displacement. For years, I carried a persistent sense of disconnection, questioning where home truly existed. Returning to Colombia in 2017 after seven years away, I realized that time had transformed the country, my relationships, and my own memories. What once felt familiar had changed, revealing how distance reshapes both place and identity.
Olvido pa’ Recordar (Forget to Remember) is a process of reconciling with these losses. Through images, I confront what is slipping away and explore the tension between remembering and letting go. The work reflects on my past in relation to my present, moving between individual and collective memory, searching for ways to keep existing. Healing and letting go become an act of learning to forget in order to remember.
